Denver made the biggest move this week, winning 3 straight games to move to .500 for the first time this year and get them out of the bottom 10. The first two wins came against Utah and the Lakers, so those didn't help too much, but when they upset Minnesota yesterday, it propelled the Nuggets up the rankings and closer to their preseason potential.
Portland was also hot this week, winning all 4 of its contests to run its winning streak to five, with the most impressive win coming on Wednesday over Phoenix, where a last-second layup avenged their season-opening loss to the Suns. The Trail Blazers are now back in the playoff hunt and have the #2 record in the West currently.
The Spurs also went 4-0 this week, and if they had not struggled in Utah last night, they would have been the runaway choice for #1, but the close call left the margin between them and the Pacers at .04 points, which means that the two are basically even. San Antonio has won 7 in a row since losing at Portland, which is becoming more excusable every day.
New Orleans was this week's biggest loser, going 0-3 on a West Coast road trip, which included losses to the Lakers and the Jazz, giving Utah its only win of the season. Last week the Pelicans looked poised to make the jump to playoff contender, but if they can't beat anybody on the road they don't have a shot.
