College Football Rankings - 13 Oct

Oregon faced their toughest test of the season this week, with a road game at a very good Washington team, but the passed that test with flying colors, solidifying their hold on the top spot and making their chance of an undefeated season become a near certainty, with only a visit to Stanford standing in the way. Baylor struggled with a weak Kansas State team, and Florida State and Miami took the week off, so there was no doubt as to this week's #1. Here are my full rankings, along with each team's predicted final record:

Missouri moved into my top 10 last week, but only into the AP top 25, so most did not expect them to beat the Georgia Bulldogs, and even though Georgia has tons of injuries, the Tigers showed definitively that they are the best team in the SEC East this year, and that they may not lose until they have to play Alabama in the SEC title game.

Alabama moved back into the top 10 this week after defeating another inferior opponent, but this time they controlled the entire game against Kentucky on the road. They were also helped by the fact that Ole Miss nearly upset Texas A&M, and also that Virginia Tech has continued to win, with the Crimson Tide still the only team to beat the Hokies or the Aggies this year.

Louisville dropped from the top 10 after struggling with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights yesterday, but an even bigger blow may have come from Ohio, a MAC favorite that the Cardinals defeated to open the season, who lost to Central Michigan, one of the 10 worst teams in the nation coming into the weekend. Sadly, the Bobcats are still the best team Louisville has beaten this year, and they are not even in the top half of FBS teams at this point.

South Carolina could have been in trouble after Georgia, the only team to beat the Gamecocks, went down to Missouri for their second loss, but instead they took care of their own business, scoring 52 straight points against the Arkansas Razorbacks to blow them away and reenter the top 25 after 2 weeks sitting on the outside looking in. The Gamecocks face another challenge this week at Tennessee, and a win would definitely push them back up toward the low teens, where they are used to being ranked.
