College Football Rankings - 22 Nov

Three of the 5 remaining undefeated teams went down yesterday, leaving only Clemson and Iowa unscathed, but there is a huge difference between the two. Clemson has beaten both Notre Dame and Florida State, but the best win for the Hawkeyes this year is against Wisconsin, which is not the power it usually is. Their only chance to beat a real team will come in the Big 10 title game, but I don't see them even keeping the game close against any of the possible opponents in that game. Here are my full current rankings:

Playoff Picks

Clemson is still on track to reach the playoff, with an easy game at South Carolina to close out the regular season, followed by a tougher game against North Carolina to win the ACC, but I believe the Tigers will pull through and enter the playoff as the only undefeated team.

Alabama will easily beat Auburn to close out their regular season with a single loss, and that win will get them to the SEC title game to face Florida, which will be another easy win for the Tide, who will be the only team to make a repeat appearance in the playoff.

Oklahoma will continue their hot play next week at Oklahoma State, which will be their third win in a row over a 1-loss team. Other than one embarrassing loss, the Sooners have been very strong every week, which is why they are #1 in my rankings and my pick to represent the Big 12 in the playoff, the first team from the conference ever to play for the playoff title.

Michigan State's win over Ohio State moved them squarely into the conversation yesterday, and while they won't reach the top 4 this week, I do think they'll make it there next week after they beat Penn State and both Notre Dame and Iowa go down. Even if Iowa closes out the regular season undefeated, the Spartans will take them down for the Big 10 title and earn a spot to play for the title.

Baylor will just miss out on the playoff again, thanks to losing at the wrong time. While their loss to Oklahoma is much better than Oklahoma's loss to Texas, the Bears lost too close to the end of the season, and head-to-head against the team that will make it for the Big 12.

Stanford will end up in the #6 spot after beating Notre Dame and USC in the next two weeks, but won't get enough help from those above them losing to make up for losing to Oregon a week ago. The loss to Stanford will also be the reason Notre Dame misses this season's playoff.
