College Football Rankings - 2 Sep

There were several surprises in week one, from Texas A&M winning big at South Carolina with a freshman quarterback to Alabama struggling to hold off West Virginia, but most teams played opponents from the FCS, which makes it tough to really gauge how good they are. This week's rankings still rely heavily on last season's results, but that will decrease over the next month. Here are this week's full rankings:

The game was not expected to be close, but the way BYU manhandled the UConn Huskies on the road gave them a huge boost, especially with so many of the higher-ranked teams struggling. They head to Austin this weekend to take on the Longhorns in their toughest remaining contest, so this one is a must-win for the Cougars to merit any playoff consideration.

USC blew away last season's MWC champs, the Fresno State Bulldogs, in a rematch of last season's bowl game, and their margin of victory increased by 2 touchdowns, so maybe all the hype around this season's Trojans is warranted, though they do have one of the toughest schedules among the top teams, so they can't just coast like some teams.

Ohio State opened the season on the road against the best team a service academy has put together in a long time, and they did it right after losing QB Braxton Miller to a season-ending injury, but the Buckeyes turned up the heat in the fourth quarter and pulled away from Navy and open with a win, which has calmed the fears somewhat in Columbus.
