College Football Rankings - 9 Nov

Last week's #2 and #3 teams were both upset at home yesterday, and #1 Alabama barely pulled out an overtime win at LSU, which cleared the way for Ole Miss, playing their SEC-patented late-season cupcake, to take the top spot back with the win. The Rebels have lost twice, but both came against ranked teams and by a total of 7 points, although it still won't be enough to earn them the SEC West title and a trip to the title game, so the playoff may also be out of the picture.

Baylor went to Oklahoma yesterday, and after struggling to a 14-3 deficit after the first quarter, outscored the Sooners 45-0 over the final 45 minutes to destroy the conference favorites and put themselves in the driver's seat for the Big 12 title. Because the Bears beat TCU last month 61-58, they own the tiebreaker and would be the team I would pick to represent the conference in the playoff, although the voters seem to still favor TCU.

Last week, after failing to reach 40 points for the first time all season, Marshall dropped from the top 10, but they came back strong this week, taking down Southern Miss 63-17. The Thundering Herd are victims of a very weak schedule, one of the five easiest in the entire nation, so anything other than an undefeated season would be a huge disappointment, but the fact that they are ranked this high just shows how impressive their wins have been.

Georgia Tech has bounced back from two close midseason losses to record three straight wins, each coming by at least 25 points. The Yellowjackets may not win another game, with matchups against Clemson and Georgia remaining. Losing to Duke probably cost them a chance at playing Florida State in the conference title game, which would have been a fun game to watch.
