College Football Rankings - 16 Nov

Ole Miss needed a break after wiping out FCS foe Presbyterian last week, but no one stepped up and took the top spot away from them while they were resting. Alabama nearly caught the Rebels, but a late rally by Mississippi State hurt the Tide and kept them at #2. Here are this week's full rankings:

Georgia had yet another impressive victory yesterday, sending the Auburn Tigers to their 2nd straight loss 34-7. The Bulldogs have finished the conference slate, with their FCS cupcake next week and in-state rival Georgia Tech after that, but they will need a loss from Missouri in order to play in the SEC title game in Atlanta the following week. I think Mizzou will get caught in one of the trap games and let the Bulldogs face Alabama for the SEC.

In Wisconsin's biggest test of the season, they went head-to-head with Nebraska, who had been the leader of the Big 10 West, and the Badgers did all the husking. Although the game was close at the end of the first quarter, 49 straight points from Wisconsin mowed Nebraska under, with Melvin Gordon starring with 408 yards and 4 touchdowns to break the Division I single-game yardage record.

Tennessee is the latest SEC team with more than 3 losses to enter the top 25 this year, and their strength of schedule is a huge part of it. Their schedule so far has been #2 in the nation, with losses to 3 of the top 4 teams, along with one at #13 Oklahoma. When they are not playing a top team, the Volunteers are tough to beat, and they just may be ready to upset Missouri this weekend.

Playoff Picks

Alabama
Baylor
Ohio State
Oregon

Alternates: Ole Miss, TCU, Marshall, Wisconsin
