NBA Rankings and All-Star Snubs - 15 Feb

With the All-Star Break occupying this weekend, I'm focusing this week's NBA rankings post on the players that were left off the All-Star teams. In order to have All-Star snubs, you must also have undeserving All-Stars, so I will also name the players who should have been left off the team in favor of these 7 more deserving stars. Here are my full team rankings for this week:

Biggest All-Star Snubs

1. Lance Stephenson - IND - 14.1 P, 7.3 R, 5.1 A, .502 FG, .338 3P, .700 FT
Stephenson may not be a scoring machine like nearly every other All-Star, but this year's leader in triple-doubles deserves to be playing tomorrow, and not just off the bench. He is a huge part of the reason Indiana is leading the East, and he's much better this year than the man he should replace...

Joe Johnson - BRK - 15.0 P, 3.2 R, 2.6 A, .438 FG, .390 3P, .806 FT
Johnson is having his worst scoring season since becoming a full-time starter in Phoenix over a decade ago, and he's on a team that is struggling just to make the playoffs in the weak East. This is the most obvious swap that should be made, and the coaches should be ashamed that they missed this in their reserve choices.

2. Serge Ibaka - OKC - 15.0 P, 8.8 R, 0.9 A, 2.6 B, .542 FG, .375 3P, .782 FT
It's time that the defensive beast was voted to more than just the All-Defensive First Team, as he is averaging career highs everywhere but blocks and field goal percentage, and has picked up a lot of the slack from Russell Westbrook's injury, and has anyone noticed the Thunder have the league's best record?

Chris Paul - LAC - 19.2 P, 4.6 R, 11.1 A, 2.5 S, .471 FG, .356 3P, .857 FT
They don't play the same position, but the frontcourt players are much more talented this year than the guards. Paul is an excellent player and his averages should put him on the team, but he's been sitting out for the last month and shouldn't have been added to the squad as a reserve.

3. Tim Duncan - SAS - 15.6 P, 10.0 R, 2.9 A, 2.1 B, .495 FG, .707 FT
This may be the best season for a 37-year old big man since Karl Malone back in 2001. He has been outplaying teammate Tony Parker, who was added to the team, and what is an All-Star Game without the Big Fundamental? I guess they want a little more flash.

Anthony Davis - NOP - 20.5 P, 10.1 R, 1.4 A, 1.6 S, 3.1 B, .522 FG, .760 FT
His numbers may be better than Duncan's, but he's doing it by carrying a weak team that has no chance to make the playoffs, and would even struggle to make it in the East. He has shown a lot of improvement in his second season, but there are plenty of All-Star games in the future for this big man, while this may be Duncan's last chance.

4. Kyle Lowry - TOR - 16.7 P, 4.5 R, 7.6 A, 1.6 S, .431 FG, .388 3P, .799 FT
Lowry should be joining teammate DeMar DeRozan on the All-Star squad this year, as the backcourt tandem is the reason the Raptors have pulled away from the field to become a solid #3 seed in the East. He's having his best season by far, but it's tough for those of us here in the States to notice what's going on north of the border.

Dwayne Wade - MIA - 18.7 P, 4.8 R, 4.7 A, 1.6 S, .548 FG, .391 3P, .724 FT
The numbers are pretty similar, with the exception of field goal percentage, but Wade has missed 15 games this season, and hasn't played more than 8 games in a row this season, showing that he's not at full strength and should be sitting out this weekend instead of games that actually count. Stephenson should replace him as a starter.

5. David West - IND - 13.7 P, 6.5 R, 2.9 A, .493 FG, .774 FT
West started slow this year but has come on strong lately, averaging over 18 points per game in February while shooting over 60%. He is the 3rd player the East-leading Pacers should have representing them in tomorrow big game.

Roy Hibbert - IND - 11.8 P, 7.7 R, 1.3 A, 2.5 B, .464 FG, .753 FT
Hibbert is a very good defensive player, as evidenced by the block totals, but all-around it is obvious that West is the better big man on the Pacers this season. By the way, how does a 7-2 center shoot only 46% from the floor, nearly 30% worse than West?

6. Goran Dragic - PHX - 20.3 P, 3.5 R, 6.2 A, 1.4 S, .508 FG, .410 3P, .784 FT
Dragic is the reason Phoenix is in the playoff race and not the lottery race this season, where they were expected to be. He has scored an extra 6 points per game since the team lost Eric Bledsoe last month, and he is a point guard shooting over 50% from the field. Big miss on this one.

Tony Parker - SAS - 17.7 P, 2.3 R, 6.2 A, .501 FG, .375 3P, .800 FT
The only category where Parker is better than Dragic is free throws, which doesn't play much into an All-Star game. The Spurs may have a better record, but Duncan is the reason for that, while Dragic is leading a no-name squad on his own. Plus, Parker is hurt and shouldn't be playing either.

7. Al Jefferson - CHA - 20.1 P, 10.5 R, 2.1 A, 1.2 B, 1.0 S, .490 FG, .673 FT
Jefferson is having his best season since 2009, and he is turning around the Bobcats faster than expected. The franchise has never made the playoffs, but they are currently in 8th, and my projections show them getting in for the first time, and the big man is the only reason they have a chance.

Kyrie Irving - CLE - 21.5 P, 3.2 R, 6.2 A, 1.3 S, .427 FG, .369 3P, .855 FT
Irving is a great young point guard and deserves consideration, but with all the top picks the Cavs have had in recent years, a little more was expected from this team, and they still can't get in the playoff picture in this year's East, and Irving is the star that should be leading them there.

Pick of the Day #97

Kansas

The Jayhawks are playing TCU this afternoon, and the Horned Frogs have not won a conference game this year, so they have no chance on the road against the best team in the conference.

Upsets: 3-2 (.600) 535-347 overall (.607)
