College Basketball Rankings - 17 Dec

We are already down to 8 undefeated teams representing only 5 conferences, and most of them are within my current top 25. Last week's AP #1, Indiana, lost to Butler this week, and my #1, Florida lost at Arizona, so the top spot opened up in both, and each went to a different team. Here are my current top 25 teams, with AP rank in parentheses and teams grouped by similar level of performance.

Saint Mary's joined my top 25 this week after beating up on Jackson State 120-67 last Tuesday. The 120 points was the most scored against a Division I team this season, and the second-highest total in team history, and Gaels star Matthew Dellavedova missed his career high in scoring by one point for the second straight game, finishing up with "only" 31 points again.

Kansas made their way back into the top 10 this week after pasting the Belmont Bruins by 29 points on Saturday. Belmont has been strong for years, and they usually perform well against tough competition, but this time the Jayhawks had their way with them. The Jayhawks have beaten several good teams this year, but have yet to take down a team ranked in the AP poll, losing against Michigan State in their only opportunity so far.

Kentucky has struggled against good teams so far this year, but they have been blowing out everyone else they have faced, winning each of their last 3 games by at least 28 points. They are travelling to face in-state rival Louisville right after Christmas, and an upset victory would be just what the young team needs to get their season on track.

Oregon entered the top 25 this week after winning big yet again, taking down Nebraska 60-38. They have faced 8 unranked teams so far, winning each by double digits, and when they faced two ranked opponents over Thanksgiving weekend, they held their own, beating the UNLV Rebels on the road before losing to a still-undefeated Cincinnati team the next night.

Predictions

Detroit at (3) Syracuse - Orange by 30
IPFW at (22) Notre Dame - Fighting Irish by 20
South Carolina State at (12) Missouri - Tigers by 25
(21) UNLV at UTEP - Rebels by 11

NBA

Minnesota at Orlando - Timberwolves by 1
Houston at New York - Knicks by 10
LA Clippers at Detroit - Clippers by 9
Chicago at Memphis - Grizzlies by 7
San Antonio at Oklahoma City - Thunder by 1
Sacramento at Phoenix - Suns by 5

Prediction Results

NBA: 3-1 (.750) 238-111 overall (.682)
Upsets: 1-0 (1.000) 46-31 overall (.597)
College Basketball: 2-0 (1.000) 282-56 overall (.834)
