These are the most over and underrated teams in college basketball currently, using discrepancy between my rankings and the current AP poll as measurements. I've found over time that the teams that are most overrated tend to lose in upsets or be challenged more than expected by unranked teams, and that my underrated teams seem to surprise some people with their victories or close calls. I am not guaranteeing that any upset will occur involving any of these teams this week, but it wouldn't surprise me if it happened.
Overrated
1. Memphis
2. Minnesota
3. Baylor
4. Syracuse
5. Villanova
We already saw Baylor get upset by Gonzaga yesterday, and even though I didn't predict an upset, it didn't really surprise me when it happened. Kansas State and Tennessee also came very close to being included here this week, and we've seen what's happened to them recently.
Underrated
1. Belmont
2. West Virginia
3. Washington
4. Duquesne
5. Vanderbilt
Surprisingly, 3 of these teams come from the so-called "power" conferences, yet they aren't getting any respect from the voters. West Virginia made a deep tournament run last season, so it surprises me to find them here. Keep an eye on these 5.
NBA Player of the Day
Kevin Love - MIN - 43 pts, 17 reb, 3 ast, 14-23 FG, 10-12 FT, 5-5 3P
Usually I won't consider a player from a losing team for my player of the day, but there is no way to ignore what Love did again last night. He outscored every other player last night, added to his league-leading rebound total, and hit all five of his three-pointers. Remember, he is a power forward. I believe that Love is currently one of the top 5 players in the entire league.
