College Football Rankings - 2 Nov

Alabama rose to #1 last week, then took the week off to prepare for a trip to LSU, keeping the Crimson Tide firmly in the top spot for another week. Meanwhile, there was a lot of action behind Alabama, with several contenders from other conferences winning big yesterday, breaking up the SEC stranglehold on the top 10. Here are this week's rankings:

Oklahoma rose to #2 this week on the strength of a 59-14 win at Iowa State yesterday, giving the Sooners a 6-2 record, with the only 2 losses coming by 4 or fewer points against the other main contenders in the Big 12, which are also top 13 teams. In addition, Oklahoma is the only team I am picking to win out from here, with a visit from Baylor this weekend as the only remaining hurdle on their schedule.

Oregon has practically lived in the top 10 for several years, so it's about time that they made their return this week, and they did it by taking down their greatest nemesis, the Stanford Cardinal, and doing it big, 45-16. The win practically locked up the Pac 12 North title, since Oregon would have to lose all 3 remaining games to miss out, and that would include a loss to Colorado, which will not happen.

Louisiana Tech joined the top 25 this week at #14, nearly catching up to conference rival Marshall in the rankings, and they are the only things standing between the Thundering Herd and an undefeated season. The Bulldogs have lost 3 times this year, but two of those came against Oklahoma and Auburn, currently #2 and #3 in my rankings. Take away their loss to FCS school Northwestern State and there would be a lot more talk about this team.
