College Football Rankings - 5 Oct

There were tons of upsets in college football on Saturday, with 5 of the top 8 teams in the AP poll falling. Only 4 of my top 12 fell, so there wasn't as much of a shakeup here. Just as in the national rankings, the SEC is dominating, with 10 of the top 25 teams this week. Here are this week's full rankings:

Auburn took over the top spot this week after destroying the SEC's other Tigers, LSU, 41-7 on Saturday. LSU was and is a solid team, but they were no match for the defending national runners-up, who are in for a fight this weekend when they travel to Starkville to face Mississippi State, now #4 in my rankings.

Speaking of the Bulldogs, they climbed into the top 10 for the first time since I started my rankings by taking out former #1 Texas A&M by a margin of 17, just one week after beating LSU in Baton Rouge. After this weekend's showdown with Auburn, their third straight ranked opponent, things don't get much easier, with an improved Kentucky team and an underrated Arkansas team waiting for them to slip up.

Ohio State not only reached the top 25 this week, they also made it into the top 10 after taking down Maryland on the road by 28 points. The Terrapins had been almost even with the Buckeyes in last week's rankings, and home field advantage should have been enough to get them the win, but both teams showed their true colors on Saturday.

Marshall may play in one of the weaker conferences, but the Thundering Herd is for real. They just won their 4th straight game by at least 30 points, and one of those was at Akron, the team that is currently the best of the MAC. They host Middle Tennessee, their toughest competition in the conference, this weekend, and I would be surprised if the margin of victory is still not double digits.
