College Football Rankings - 4 Oct

There were a lot of upsets yesterday among the top teams in the country, and a lot of near-upsets as well, with Ohio State just barely escaping once again. Alabama proved themselves worthy of the top spot I gave them last week after wiping out Georgia on the road yesterday, so they remain at the top this week.

The #2 spot opened up after Ole Miss lost last night, and the hole was filled by USC, which was on a bye this week. The Trojans were helped out by their last two opponents, Arizona State and Stanford, each winning big yesterday, making USC's win last week over the Sun Devils more impressive and their loss to Stanford not as bad.

Speaking of Stanford, the Cardinal just won their 4th straight after losing their opener to Northwestern, which is still undefeated. Stanford has beaten USC, and they won by a lot in Arizona last night, keeping them undefeated in conference play, one of only 3 in the Pac 12 that can say that.

The Florida Gators joined the top 25 this week after destroying Ole Miss yesterday 38-10. The Gators are one of 3 remaining undefeated teams in the SEC, and it's their second straight upset victory, after they beat Tennessee last week. They still have to face LSU and Georgia this month, but Florida should not be overlooked in the SEC race.
