College Football Rankings - 18 Oct

The top two teams in my rankings last week both went down in surprising fashion, with Michigan turning the ball over in the final seconds and allowing the ball to be returned for the game-winning touchdown and Boise State turning it over 8 times against Utah State, resulting in a blowout loss. With those two out of the picture for #1, the way was clear for the remaining members of the top 5 to move up, and Baylor filled the void after beating their first real opponent of the season, West Virginia, and doing it in the usual, impressive, high-scoring Bear fashion. Here are this week's full rankings:

Oklahoma took a nosedive out of the top 5 last week after losing to Texas in the Red River Rivalry game, but they proved yesterday that it was just a fluke, which is pretty common in rivalry games. The Sooners had their best game of the season as they dismantled Kansas State on the road, holding the Wildcats scoreless and putting up 55 points in the process.

Stanford took complete control of the Pac 12 North yesterday after they won their 5th straight game, beating #18 UCLA 56-35 in a battle of two of the league's best. The Cardinal has increased their scoring every week this season, and has beaten both of the Southern California teams without a problem, so it now looks like the North Division will come down to their rivalry game with Cal right before Thanksgiving.

Memphis is just outside the top 10 now after pulling off a huge upset yesterday in the biggest game on their schedule, taking down the Ole Miss Rebels and remaining undefeated. The Tigers are one of three remaining undefeated teams in the American Conference, and they will be facing both of those teams in November with the possibility of a berth in a New Year's Six bowl game on the line.
