College Football Rankings - 25 Oct

The top 5 teams in terms of average adjusted margin of victory have each played a schedule so far that ranks among the bottom half of the nation in terms of schedule strength, which easily explains the large victories. The next two on that list, however, each have a schedule strength rank among the top 20 overall, which puts them in the top 2 spots in this week's overall rankings. Here are my full rankings for this week:

Clemson has taken over the top spot for the first time ever in my rankings after going to Miami yesterday and leaving it looking like a hurricane had struck. The 58-0 victory looks like just another blowout by a ranked team over a cupcake, but Miami was actually a pretty good team up to this point, and the Tigers made them look like a high school team. Clemson also beat Georgia Tech pretty handily a few weeks ago, and their win over Notre Dame, which is currently at #4, will be a big factor in Clemson making it to the playoff this season.

Ohio State, the unanimous preseason #1 team, finally climbed back into my top 10 this week, the first week with JT Barrett at QB. They finally looked like the team that won it all last year in their 49-7 victory at Rutgers, and it's perfect timing for the Buckeyes, because they have their 4 toughest games of the season yet to play.

LSU is also starting to climb in my rankings, reaching the top 15 this week after a dominant victory over Western Kentucky, one of the top teams from the non-power conferences this season. Up until last week, the Tigers hadn't really played anybody, other than Mississippi State and a severely overrated Auburn team, but wins over Florida and the Hilltoppers have shown that this team is going to be tough to beat, although it may happen next week when they head to Tuscaloosa to play the Crimson Tide.
