College Basketball Rankings - 13 Feb
With a 10-point road win at Saint Mary's on Saturday, the Gonzaga Bulldogs all but guaranteed that they will enter the conference tournament undefeated. The last team to get within single digits of the Zags was Arizona, clear back on December 3rd. The Gaels will probably get one last shot at Gonzaga in the conference title game, but it still looks like we will have an undefeated team in March Madness. Here are my full current rankings, with projected conference champs in bold, at-large teams underlined, and teams whose in/out status changed this week in italics:

College Basketball Tournament Watch - 12 Feb
Only 4 weeks remain in until the tournament committee makes their decisions, and there are plenty of teams vying for those coveted spots. 6 more teams locked down their spots for March Madness, and there were also plenty that slipped a bit this week. Here is my current breakdown of tournament probability by conference, with odds of winning upcoming games in parentheses, and teams that moved up or down in italics:
American
Probably In
Cincinnati - @ SMU (33.4%), @ South Florida (93.8%), Tulsa (96.5%)
SMU - Cincinnati (66.6%), Tulane (99.9%), @ Houston (47.6%)
Good Chance
Houston - SMU (52.4%)
The Cincinnati-SMU winner has a great chance to lock up their big next week, though Houston could throw a wrench into SMU's plans with an upset win.
Atlantic 10
Good Chance
Dayton - @ Saint Louis (84.9%), St. Bonaventure (81.0%)
VCU - Saint Joseph's (89.1%), @ Richmond (49.2%)
Rhode Island - Fordham (96.1%), @ George Mason (54.1%)
Dayton should move up a notch if they don't lose this week, while the others probably won't move either direction.

Pittsburgh - Virginia Tech (61.3%), Florida State (39.5%)
North Carolina and Virginia are in, the Florida State and Duke are looking to join them this week, which would give the ACC 5 guarantees already. Pittsburgh is starting to show a little life, but they might need two wins this week to keep their chances alive.

West Virginia
Good Wins: @ Virginia, @ Oklahoma State, TCU, Baylor, Kansas, @ Iowa State, Kansas State
Good Losses: @ Texas Tech, @ Kansas State, Oklahoma State

TCU - Oklahoma State (53.0%), @ Iowa State (23.9%)
Texas Tech - Baylor (44.8%), @ West Virginia (8.3%)
This should be the week for both Kansas and Baylor to move up to definite status, as long as the loser of their matchup wins their other game. Texas Tech has some great chances to solidify their chances with two tough games.

Ohio State - @ Michigan State (33.2%)

Missouri Valley
Probably In
Wichita State - @ Loyola (CHI) (62.9%), @ Southern Illinois (74.7%), Northern Iowa (97.2%)
Still a Chance
Illinois State - @ Missouri State (52.8%)

Still a Chance
California - @ Stanford (50.7%)

Southern
Still a Chance
East Tennessee State - Samford (82.9%), @ Chattanooga (36.7%)
Chattanooga - @ VMI (75.2%), East Tennessee State (63.3%)

NBA MVP Rankings - 11 Feb
Since my last MVP rankings, the Golden State Warriors have been on fire, while most of the other top contenders' teams have been heading in the opposite direction. As a result, the two Warriors on the list are climbing, while nearly everybody else is falling. Here are my current MVP rankings, with previous rank in parentheses:
1 (4) Kevin Durant - GSW - 25.7 P, 8.3 R, 4.8 A, 1.7 B, 1.2 S, .535 FG, .373 3P, .872 FT
The best player on the best team is the current MVP leader, though the top 4 are basically interchangeable at this point.
2 (2) James Harden - HOU - 28.9 P, 8.2 R, 11.3 A, 1.5 S, .438 FG, .347 3P, .851 FT
Harden is leading the league in assists and #3 in scoring, and his team is #3 in the West.
3 (1) Russell Westbrook - OKC - 30.9 P, 10.5 R, 10.2 A, 1.6 S, .419 FG, .339 3P, .827 FT
Westbrook is leading the league in scoring and #3 in assists, but his team is fighting for their playoff lives.
4 (3) LeBron James - CLE - 25.8 P, 7.8 R, 8.7 A, 1.4 S, .530 FG, .373 3P, .688 FT
James has been a top 4 MVP candidate for 13 consecutive seasons, and he still has the Cavs at #1 in the East.
5 (8) Stephen Curry - GSW - 25.2 P, 4.2 R, 6.3 A, 1.7 S, .476 FG, .420 3P, .916 FT
The two-time defending MVP is down a bit in scoring and shooting percentage, but he's no longer the star of the team, which makes it hard to be the MVP.
6 (6) Kawhi Leonard - SAS - 25.6 P, 5.9 R, 3.4 A, 1.7 S, .486 FG, .398 3P, .902 FT
Leonard's numbers are pretty similar to Curry's this year, but the Spurs are still a step behind the Warriors.
7 (5) DeMar DeRozan - TOR - 27.9 P, 5.3 R, 3.8 A, 1.2 S, .471 FG, .847 FT
Toronto has been in freefall mode for a few weeks, and DeRozan has seen his numbers slipping as well.
8 (9) Kyle Lowry - TOR - 23.0 P, 4.7 R, 7.0 A, 1.5 S, .464 FG, .416 3P, .826 FT
Lowry has been playing well, but his team is losing consistently, so he can't move upward much more.
9 (7) Giannis Antetokounmpo - MIL - 23.5 P, 8.7 R, 5.4 A, 2.0 B, 1.7 S, .528 FG, .790 FT
The Greek Freak is one of the best all-around players in the league, but the Bucks have fallen out of the playoff race.
10 (NR) John Wall - WAS - 23.0 P, 4.4 R, 10.5 A, 2.2 S, .454 FG, .315 3P, .809 FT
Wall is the only new addition to the rankings this week, after he caught fire and led the Wizards clear up to #3 in the East.
Honorable Mentions: Isaiah Thomas - BOS, Anthony Davis - NOP, DeMarcus Cousins - SAC
Rookie of the Year Rankings
1. Joel Embiid - PHI - 20.2 P, 7.8 R, 2.1 A, 2.5 B, .466 FG, .367 3P, .783 FT
2. Malcolm Brogdon - MIL - 9.3 P, 2.7 R, 4.2 A, 1.2 S, .443 FG, .417 3P, .848 FT

5. Buddy Hield - NOP - 8.7 P, 2.9 R, 1.3 A, .393 FG, .368 3P, .900 FT
Embiid is the runaway Rookie of the Year, even with only 31 games played so far and a minutes restriction, but there are several other rookies with potential to become eventual stars.
Sixth Man of the Year Rankings
1. Lou Williams - LAL - 18.4 P, 2.3 R, 3.1 A, 1.1 S, .440 FG, .381 3P, .883 FT

5. Enes Kanter - OKC - 14.4 P, 6.7 R, 1.0 A, .563 FG, .789 FT
The Sixth Man race is very close, with several former starters adjusting well to their new bench roles, but Williams has been contributing the most.
1 (4) Kevin Durant - GSW - 25.7 P, 8.3 R, 4.8 A, 1.7 B, 1.2 S, .535 FG, .373 3P, .872 FT
