College Football Rankings - 8 Sep

Most of the top teams had impressive victories over the weekend, highlighted by #1 Oregon's comeback victory over Michigan State and BYU's huge road win over Texas. A couple other top teams, notably UCLA and Florida State, were less impressive in barely beating very inferior competition, leading to a drop in the rankings for each. Here are my full rankings after week 2:

BYU took over the top spot after blowing out the Texas Longhorns in Austin, taking over in the 3rd quarter with 4 touchdowns, 3 by QB Taysom Hill on the ground, bringing back bad memories of last season's loss in Provo. BYU is only #25 in the AP poll, but they opened the season with 2 road games, and won both convincingly, so odds are that the Cougars will finish this season undefeated, and could cause some controversy in year 1 of the playoff era.

Texas A&M followed up their week 1 drubbing of the Gamecocks with a 73-3 blowout of Lamar, their FCS foe for this season. While the cupcake games don't tell you much about a team in a blowout, several teams have struggled against the lower division, so the Aggies made sure there was no question as to their superiority in this one.

Florida finally opened the season on Saturday, a week later than expected, and took it out on Eastern Michigan, who fell to last place in the FBS following the 65-0 drubbing at the Gators' hands. Coming off their worst season in memory, Florida needed a big win to regain confidence for a new start.
