Big Movers of the Week:

Even though Utah's winning streak ended this week, its wins over Indiana and Milwaukee were both very impressive, and their loss was to a very good Dallas team. Their only 2 losses in the past 10 games were to San Antonio and Dallas, who currently have the 2 best records in the league.

New York made a big move this week behind the strong play of Amare Stoudemire. Amare has at least 31 points and 9 rebounds in each of the last 4 games, and New York has won 9 of 10 after its 3-8 start. While that may look impressive, it is worth noting that only one of the opponents they have beaten over that stretch has a winning record.

The Houston Rockets moved up this week thanks to a big win over the struggling Lakers and two close losses to the Mavericks and Bulls. If Yao Ming returns this week as he expects, the Rockets may very well continue this upward trend in the rankings.

The Minnesota Timberwolves played good games against the top 2 teams to begin the week before taking out their frustration on the Cleveland Cavaliers, pounding them 129-95 to end a 6-game losing streak which included most of the best teams in the NBA. The games don't look much easier this week, but they do have a winnable game against the Pistons to look forward to.

Losers of the week:

Portland may have ended their 6-game losing streak last night, but it was against the Clippers, who are winless on the road so far this season. Their losing streak included losses to the Wizards, 76ers, and Nets, each of which is sitting at the bottom of its respective division.

Charlotte had a very similar week to that of Portland. They lost to the struggling Hornets and the bottom-feeding 76ers, but were able to win a game, theirs over the last-place New Jersey Nets in overtime. Not a good week for a team Michael Jordan said had to make the playoffs this year.

Cleveland was looking like a decent team until this week, when it followed up blowout losses to the Celtics and Heat with another blowout loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. They played a little better against Detroit, but things appear to have gone off-track after LeBron James returned to town and blew them away.
