NBA MVP Rankings - 21 Dec

There are several players early in this NBA season who have shown huge improvement and are leading their players to great success, some of them at record pace. I have broken down the stats for each player in the league and ranked them each according to how they compare to the average player in each statistical category and have factored in team success as well, since nearly every MVP of the past 30 years has been on a team with a record among his conference's top 2. Here are my current MVP rankings:

1. Kevin Durant - GSW - 25.7 P, 8.4 R, 4.6 A, 1.2 S, 1.6 B, .539 FG, .406 3P, .866 FT

Durant is averaging a career-high in field goal percentage for the league's best team.

2. James Harden - HOU - 27.8 P, 8.1 R, 11.7 A, 1.4 S, .437 FG, .344 3P, .842 FT

Harden has increased his assist average each season in his career, and he is currently leading the league.

3. Russell Westbrook - OKC - 30.9 P, 10.5 R, 10.9 A, 1.3 S, .426 FG, .325 3P, .816 FT

Westbrook is the best player in the league and is averaging a triple-double, but his team may barely make the playoffs.

4. LeBron James - CLE - 25.4 P, 7.8 R, 9.0 A, 1.4 S, .515 FG, .368 3P, .692 FT

James is averaging a career-high in assists and is ahead of his career average in rebounds as well.

5. Stephen Curry - GSW - 24.7 P, 4.3 R, 5.8 A, 1.7 S, .474 FG, .404 3P, .934 FT

Curry's numbers have dropped off a little this year with Durant in town, but he is still leading the league in free throw percentage again.

6. DeMar DeRozan - TOR - 27.9 P, 5.1 R, 4.1 A, 1.2 S, .482 FG, .849 FT

DeRozan is averaging a career-high in scoring, and the Raptors are looking like a possible #1 seed in the East.

7. Giannis Antetokounmpo - MIL - 22.7 P, 9.2 R, 5.8 A, 2.1 S, 2.0 B, .519 FG, .773 FT

The Greek Freak has the Bucks in the playoff chase with a huge year we've been seeing signs of for a couple years.

8. Jimmy Butler - CHI - 24.6 P, 6.6 R, 4.3 A, 1.7 S, .459 FG, .352 3P, .890 FT

If he stays healthy, Butler will easily have the best season of his career and get the Bulls to the playoffs.

9. Anthony Davis - NOP - 29.6 P, 11.1 R, 2.2 A, 1.5 S, 2.8 B, .488 FG, .809 FT

The Brow is having a career year in almost every category, even if the Pelicans will still miss the playoffs.

10. Kawhi Leonard - SAS - 23.9 P, 5.9 R, 3.0 A, 2.0 S, .468 FG, .379 3P, .916 FT

The former Finals MVP continues to improve, and the Spurs are still the Spurs, even without Tim Duncan.

Honorable Mention: Damian Lillard - POR, Kevin Love - CLE, Kyle Lowry - TOR, DeMarcus Cousins - SAC
